Malaysia is on track to double its electric vehicle (EV) charging stations to 4,000 by next year, supporting the government's initiative to adopt EVs as official vehicles for ASEAN programmes, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. Currently, over 2,000 charging stations are primarily located in urban centres, sufficient to support EV usage for the ASEAN meetings scheduled for next year. The government has set an ambitious target to increase this number to 10,000 stations nationwide by 2030, alongside incentives for EV ownership. This move is part of a broader environmental sustainability strategy that aims to reduce carbon emissions from the transportation sector and increase the share of renewable energy in the national fuel mix to 40% by 2030, up from the current 20%.
