European Charging Station Growth
:Europe has made significant progress in #electric #vehicle (EV) #charging infrastructure, with the number of public and semi-public charging stations exceeding 900,000. The Netherlands, Germany, and France have the highest number of charging stations, with 169,216, 152,332, and 119,481 respectively, accounting for more than half of the total number of charging stations in Europe.
Uneven Distribution of Charging Stations
: Despite the increasing number of charging stations, their distribution across #Europe is highly uneven. Some countries, such as Belgium and Finland, have seen significant growth rates of 190% and 158% respectively in the past year and a half, but many rural and remote areas still lack adequate charging facilities.
Charging Technology and Types
: Currently, alternating current (AC) charging stations account for 84% of the European market, while direct current #fast #charging (DCFC) and high-power charging (HPC) stations account for 7% and 10% respectively. Over the past year, AC charging stations increased by 10%, while the growth rate of fast-charging stations was higher, reaching 15% and 25% respectively.
Policy Support
: Europe's #clear #carbon emission targets drive the acceleration of charging station construction. On July 25, 2023, the European Union passed the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), which requires more charging stations to be built across Europe to significantly reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector.
France's Charging Station Growth
: In the first nine months of this year, France added more new charging stations for new energy vehicles than any other European country, with the number of charging stations available for #new #energy #vehicle drivers approaching 137,000, more than one-fifth of which were deployed in 2024.
Slowing Growth of Charging Stations in the UK
: In the first three quarters of 2024, the #UK added only 8,000 charging stations, less than half of the same period last year. High electricity costs and grid costs put pressure on the economic viability of operating charging sites.
EU Plan to Promote Charging Stations
: The EU has stated that by 2026, at least one electric vehicle charging station should be set up every 60 kilometers on major roads in Europe; one truck charging station every 120 kilometers, half of which should be built by 2028; and at least one hydrogen station every 200 kilometers by 2031.
These news and trends show the positive progress of Europe in the construction of charging infrastructure, while also pointing out the existing challenges and future development directions.
