Uzbekistan Ramps Up EV Charging Infrastructure Government Initiatives
The Cabinet of Ministers in Uzbekistan has approved measures to significantly expand the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, with a goal to install 32,400 charging stations by the end of 2025.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote electric transport and enhance accessibility for users.
Public Parking Regulation
Starting February 1, 2025, at least one parking space in public parking lots must be equipped with an EV charging station. This includes spaces at government buildings, shopping centers, entertainment complexes, gas stations, hotels, and roadside facilities. The new regulation mandates that 5% of the total parking spaces be designated for charging, ensuring every site has at least one accessible charging point.
Residential and Commercial Charging Facilities
Residential buildings will be allowed to install charging stations with a capacity of up to 22 kW. Businesses will also have the opportunity to set up charging stations in residential parking areas, facilitating greater access to EV charging.
Infrastructure Integration
The government has placed significant emphasis on integrating EV charging stations into existing infrastructure. Plans for modernizing and repairing the electrical grid will consider the installation of charging stations and their impact on the energy system.
Regulations and Enforcement
To combat charging blockers, the government is planning to introduce regulations. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has been tasked with preparing the necessary legislative changes within two months to enforce these regulations.
Growth in Charging Stations
The number of EV charging stations in Uzbekistan has increased dramatically, from just three in 2020 to 450 in 2024, reflecting the overall expansion of the EV market in the country.
